I don't know, but this was interesting to me...

None of the derby contenders listed have Princequillo as their sire line.

yes cajun, that list is a graphic example of the lack of diversity in the sire lines. one of only two Ribots in the bunch is the #1 contender, NBLSB. and a Princequillo line sire is almost unheard of today.

Crazy as this sounds, Sumitas... I look for Princequillo in the dam's line as a way of filtering my derby contenders. I'm not sure how the the large heart factor is passed down, but it seems to me, that most horses with Princequillo in the first 5 or 6 gens of their dam's line can go longer. Am I wrong?

sumitas 02-15-2007 06:51 PM

i dunno...he is a stamina factor...

witchdoctor 02-15-2007 09:02 PM

Princequillo does put a lot of stamina in a horse. Unfortunately, they take longer to mature and in today's market early maturing speed sells. For a good history of Princequillo check out this llink.

Yep, it is...

My next competition horse is going to be a Cleveland Bay or Cleveland Bay cross. Clevelands have that much bone.

That's awesome! It is so hard to find them around here as everyone has hanoverians and trakehners and no use for a "carriage" horse  ... we've got a breeder not far from my house, but I just can't afford to board a horse right now. One of these days, I'll get my own property.

I think he got the horse from Ireland or England, but I think he also said he didn't pay as much as one would think either.

This is the horse I've been the most interested in (in this country):

He's got 10 inches of bone (NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY) and has thrown some nice crosses. :)

I'm really liking the pedigree of Two Davids. He's 27 and I hope he stays healthy a few more years.

I see that Artie Schiller is shuttling to Australia. Just what the world needs, more Northern Dancer/Raise A Native crosses.
