It's part of racing. . . you just have to accept stuff like that and move on. . .

come on the kid is barely 19, give him a break. He has more Grade 1 wins than most jocks in the country. He is at the learning curve right now and I expect him to make mistakes and better now than when he has 10-15 years behind him making the same mistakes.

Most people would have rated his ride on invasor as horrible and the horse won the race and not him. Well most jocks would have panicked and would swing thier horse outside costing them more lengths. This kid collected himself and took the same path he wanted to go (on the rail) without losing ground. Just watch this kid grow and mature. Give him some time!

He is only 19 and I think he'll be a good rider but I'm far less optimistic about him after seeing him ride for a month at Gulf. He's gotten outclosed in tight finishes by a couple of inferior seeming horses which is disappointing because his ability to finish strong is one of his supposed strengths.

His ride on Invasor was, I think, just awful. I'll disagree with you and say I thought he did panic in the race by rushing up too quick late on the turn and putting his horse in such a tight spot that he clipped heels which can be extraordinarily serious.

Who knows, if that "clip" had been another 1/2 inch higher or a 1/4 inch to the side, we'd possibly be talking about the race, horse and rider in a far more somber tone.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but he had the entire backstretch to get the horse into better position. Jara got greedy or too fancy, whatever. But to run a horse worth tens of millions of dollars into the the back of another is about as bad as it gets.

I think you'd be about 30/1 on the morning line if we ever do decide to have a Derby Trail spelling bee.

In all honesty, I never spell his name right either.
