BRISnet

Geez, what an obnoxious sign-up form! They want SS# AND mother's maiden name AND credit card info (including the card ID code, OF COURSE!). In this day and age of identity theft, no one should have to give up all that info at once. I find asking for SS# particularly annoying.

I may still go through with the signup. Does anyone know if Bris will categorically refuse memberships from any particular states? I'd hate to give them all this info and not even get an account!

Also, 31Lengths, have you figured out how to access the replays yet? That's a big incentive in my signing up.

True enough. I went back and checked YouBet's form. They require SS#, too, which sucks, but at least they don't ask for mother's maiden and a credit card. I've always funded YouBet with a check. The Bris form is ridiculous.

I agree, Brisnet's form is insanity. However, I had the option to only enter the last four of the SS#, which is a little more comforting that dishing out the whole thing.

I think BRISnet has the same sign-up form as its sister entity BRISbet and that is why they are asking for such personal information. Obviously a wagering entity is going to want to know you Social Security Number. BRISnet will allow you to join from any state, whereas BRISbet will not allow you to join if your state does not permit phone/internet wagering.

Skippy, it's not at all obvious to me why they need my SS#. Nobody asks for my SS# if I go to the window to make a bet at the track. If I got a huge payoff, THEN they could ask for my SS#.

Also, it's not just the SS# that bothers me. Why do they ALSO need my mother's maiden name AND a credit card WITH the extra cc security code? I'm surprised they didn't ask for a dental imprint.

Suffolk, how did you manage that? Did you sign up by phone, or does the form let you do that?

When you go to the window at a track, you are not transfering money into and out of an account and money is not being transferred is via wire or ACH. A BRISbet account is set up to transfer money back and forth and well as track the flow of that money. In addition, ever since 9/11 there has been a tremendous amount of attention paid to money transfers and there are a lot more regulations. If you want to open any sort of account that has anything to do with cash and/or investments they want to know everything about you. They want to make sure you are not funneling money from somewhere you shouldn't be.

Dunbar-
The replays are at BrisBet. Not BrisNet. I was mistaken.
Yeah...the SS # sux. However I don't know of an alternative.
I work for the PoPo and right now our leading crime is I.D. theft.
It's very frustrating. The banks become the victim and will replace your money and take their losses because it's not worth it to take the pidely charges to court. Basically rendering my 4 hrs a day that I spend on this invest - usless.
