NFL to play regular season game in London

This is crap if you ask me. Why would any team give up a home game to travel 8 hours on a plane to play in London. Also, how how long off will the NFL give each team. In addition, I season ticket holders will still have to pay for 10 games.

I'll be shocked if it goes over well. Seems like the Brits are snobbish on sports. It's soccer, cricket, and sissy stuff like badminton.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but where do you live that has an NFL team that gets to host ten games in a year?

8 during the reg season and you pay for two pre-season.

8 + 2 = 10 (I think)

Exactly correct. When you buy season tickets you have to buy tickets to the 2 home pre-season games.

I think we will start to see more of this. Global economy, global sports. Basketball has tapped deep into the worldwide talent. I cant imagine that in the future the NFL would not try the same thing. Taking on the God of sports, Soccer (football).

oh, that's gay.

Speaking to both Euro and Pgardns' posts: I think it's ridiculous for them to have a regular season game out of the States! It cheapens the season and I think its not a wise business venture...It's not like Europe will start wearing NFL merchandise. Football will never replace soccer in the rest of the world. Props to TB for his post also!

The problem is that the dont play our style of football in Europe. I think the only other country to play out football is Canada.

If you think that is gay, you should see how much you have to pay for a PSL.

I don't see anything wrong with them playing a game (or two) a year outside the U.S.

The regular season game in Mexico City a couple years ago set the record for attendence at any NFL regular season game.

NFL Europa averages about 20,000 per game with something like 36,000 at the World Bowl. Not earth shattering but still, there are fans there.

It's all about TV revenue and ratings and if those go up everyone in the league benefits.

The NFL doesn't make too many strategic mistakes.

No they don't. But I think this is a huge blunder. Rumor has it that it is going to be Miami and New York Giants. I would be pissed to lose a home game.

NFL doesn't make mant strategic mistakes...how could they when they have Upshaw in their pocket? Ratings points...Whats an extra million viewers to a football telecast? Doesn't seem worth the trouble.

A million extra viewers, maybe not. But I read they hope to have an additional 60 Million viewers world-wide tune in to this game.

Why would this game attract 60 mm more viewers. Why cant they attract them without sending the game to London?

post2post 01-17-2007 01:00 PM

nfl trying to hit new pay per view markets.....but that home game shold be refunded.

eurobounce 01-17-2007 01:20 PM

I think it should count as a road game for both teams. That way each team still gets 10 home games and the season ticket holders arent screwed.
