i was a manchester united fan til Becks and RUUD left, im not a big Wayne Rooney fan either, but i think Ronaldo and Ferdinand are ok. Within the premiere league I no longer have an affinity towards one team.

Real Madrid is my team now cause they procured my favorite player in RUUUD!

Ah yes, soccer....I find it ironic that while man has evolved and taken a place at the top of the food-chain mainly because of two factors...neurological development that facilitated the advent of language and the mutation leading to opposable thumbs, his most popular sport is one that negates use of one great advantage and relegates the other to shouts, cries and grunts. I have this foreboding view of the future; in 3535, soccer will have been the only sport played for centuries and man will have evolved to the place where the vast majority of babies are born without arms...only a lucky few have four limbs and they have become the dictatorial leaders who subjugate the masses...and they will be referred to only as "Goalies"!

Becks to LA Galaxy - now theres $250million over 5 years that could be better spent.. He's terrible.

yeah, but man, expensive marketing.. if I was to believe the press that he'll be on just short of £500k a week, thats absolutely staggering.. especially considering that Michael Ballack is recognised in most places as the highest paid footballer on just over £120k a week..

timmgirvan 01-11-2007 06:49 PM

I didn't mean to imply it was GOOD MARKETING,lol

bad move by Becks, a move to US soccer only means that Becks is no longer a world class player. Here I was thinking he would play for England one last time in the World Cup, theres goes that dream

I agree with you Seattle, but for a different reason.

Becks has the Sex Appeal, the bending kicks, the charisma, bla bla bla to make the LA Galaxy a lot of money... but it's gonna wear off quick. The huge misconception about the guy, is that he's a world-class scoring machine. In the bedroom, he totally is! But not on the soccer field.

He scores mostly on those bending penalty kicks, but not normally. If they wanted to bring a guy in who could "wow" the crowd and score a bunch, they shoulda made a push for Ronaldo. He much more fits the bill in that sense.

But at first, Becks will be a cash cow. But only because the age 15-30 demographic of females will be obsessing over him. When he only scores a handful of times, he'll be considered a "bust" and the fanfare will wear off.
