Pie Chart Paper Puts Racing on the Front Page

USA Today's front page story is about Ron Franklin. Hooray for USAToday, putting racing on the front page twice in just over 2 months!

Here's the link to the story, for those who don't want to buy it (or whose gym doesn't provide it free. Thanks, gym!):

Graet publicity, a drug addicted over the hill rider who was not really any good anyway.

Hilarious.

Come on, America loves a comeback story-- guess who else is on today's front page (but in a little picture up in the corner)- Whitney Houston!

(Apparently, 41 percent of Americans want her to rebound.)

Repent or Ron Franklin?

Cannon Shell 01-09-2007 04:16 PM

Maybe I'm just jaded but I'm tired of the "I beat the drugs, I'm trying to get back on my feet stories." The truth is that very few of these stories have happy endings but we rarely hear about that.

The repent guy...reminds me of Lindsay Grahamm and John McCain. Sane they are. I don't think drugs have ever been involved with them.

paisjpq 01-09-2007 04:26 PM

thanks for posting Nicole...I agree with chuck that these types of stories rarely have a happy ending...but as someone who knows about this particular issue firsthand I applaud him for continuing to try to get clean...too many people just give themselves up to the drug.

I hope he stays clean. The guy has been on coke for what, 30 years? So, he says he is clean for a year. Great. However, I don't want to bet my money on some guy that is very likely to fall back into his old habit. I hope he doesn't of course. I just don't think being off the junk for a year should give him the right to get his license back. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I would think other jocks might be a little hesitant as well.

Coke ain't all that bad, but I prefer Pepsi.

Guy lucked out to ride one of the best horses ever and then pissed it away. Substance abuse sucks.
