Does it matter which jock fouls ?

How much does jockey matter when it comes time to take a horse down,or not? I think it matters quite a bit,but it shouldn't.I have seen certain jocks get huge breaks(they stay up when others would quickly be taken down if their horse did the same exact thing.)

Of course it matters. ANd it matters who the trainer is also which is awful. Headley got away with murder two summers ago at Del Mar on a call that was an obvious take down. I wonder why?

Exhibit One:

Ramon Dominguez, May 19, 2006, Pimlico, Black Eyed Susan Stakes.

That was going to be my answer, and you don't need an Exhibit Two... Had it been the other way around with Ramon on Smart N Pretty and Arroyo on Regal Engagement, there would NEVER have been a DQ... We were on the air from Pimlico live, with "BTW" on with us I believe, and I screamed bloody murder at the time... A total outrage... Then we had Romans on the following Monday and he was beside himself... And now poor Smart N Pretty is dead.

Romans took it a lot better than I would have. Just awful..

that was a bs, dq..

I think it was Wanderin Boy maybe? That Pimlico Special was a short field. Maybe West Virginia? I can't remember.

Either way, whenever someone asks about a jock getting favored treatment, I can always point to the 06 Black Eyed Susan as exhibit A.

Invasor drifted in on West Virginia in the Pimlico Special.

Not really sure it mattered anyway. It wasn't that bad.

Definitely matters... years ago there was a horrendous DQ up at Saratoga involving Bailey and Chavez..

The horses barely brushed... Chavez taken down, Bailey + Mott put up...

The stewards should have been shot.

Gander 01-04-2007 01:37 PM

Maybe the stewards check out their tickets and factor that in to the decision.

SCUDSBROTHER 01-04-2007 02:10 PM

The reason I asked this question was because I am pretty sure the stewards would have taken down somebody like Maragh's horse for doing what Prado's horse did in the 1st race yesterday.I didn't bet the race. So,it just seemed odd to me.

I might be wrong but i also think it has to do with the horses odds. If a horse finishes second at 3/5 they have a better chance of being put the winner than a 10/1 shot does if there is an inquiry/objection.

You can say that again. I had a 60-1 that did absolutely nothing wrong.
Pat Day acted surprised to see the horse sweeping wide on the turn and that was it. Not a ding dong thing wrong. Never took 1 improper step. They showed replay after replay of my horse doing nothing wrong and then took him down.

Odds make all the difference in the world and the jockey too. One time Guidry acted like he was cut off when the horse was no where near him. He couldn't win it fair and square so he took it via and acting job.

I have to agree with Gander. They get on the phone ask everyone of their buddies if they need any help and they get it.
