Though this belongs downstairs in EsoCent, I thought I'd start it here for exposure..



Tonight as part of SciFi Channel's Twilight Zone Marathon, for your consideration, the story of a little man.. a weeman.. a jockey...



Mickey Rooney at 9:45pm in "Last Night of a Jockey".. A Twilight Zone Classic episode... If you are stayhing in tonight or going out after 10:30 and you've never seen it, watch...


(As a trivia aside, our own BTW is a distant cousin of Ithaca, NY native Serling...)

My favorite one... "IT'S A GOOD LIFE" is on at 7:30..

You see a monster inhabits the town and, well, this particular monster doesn't care much for the machines of the modern age (except for airplanes) or contact with the outside world through electricity and what have you, so he's wiped them out...and in effect has cut off Peaksville, Ohio, from the rest of the world (or perhaps has eliminated the rest of the world...no one is certain). Rod Serling's Hometown is Binghamton, NY. After Hollywood Serling taught at Ithaca College before succumbing to heart disease. Exterminator, Sun Briar, and Suntica are buried here too.

The TV episode featured '60's child star icon Billy Mumy (Will Robinson in 'Lost in Space')... If you do watch "Good Life" later on, also look for Cloris Leachman as the mother of Mumy, and character actor Max Showalter as one of the townspeople. Best remembered as Grandpa Fred in "Sixteen Candles"...

One of the most disturbing "TZ" episodes ever...

My top 5 are
1-The one with Burgess Meredith where he survives the nuclear explosion and has all the books he needs only to have his glasses break.
2-William Shatner when he sees the creature on the wing of the plane.
3-When the man captures the devil and tells his story about him and brother Jerome to the lady who later sets the devil free again.
4-The one with Agnes Moorhead and the creatures from space.
5-The one called to serve man when at the end they decipher the code and realize the book from the aliens is a cook book.

One of my favorites was on earlier.. "Walking Distance" where the exceptional Gig Young accidently returns to his childhood and spends time with his dad.. (The dad played by the very good Frank Overton, memorable as the Town Sherriff ..Hank Tate?.. in "To Kill a Mockingbird"). Also in that early Twilight Zone, a VERY young Ron Howard!!

I'm watching it right now! I remember watching this with my Dad as a kid and having to have him explain to me, "this TV show isn't real, it's just an example of how creative the human mind can be"... no wonder I have very strange dreams :p :eek:
