Looks like thy're going to support the Sunnis if the US bails.

Timm,
No weapons in my hands.
Yes, "religion" is involved big time.
Looks like the Saudis are positioning themselves to be big players...and not as GW would want it.
They have lots of oil, lots of money, and their own interests to consider.

I would characterize the 'wants' of the US,as opposed to Bush....it is amazing that the cumulative admins have used the "charms' of the Saudis' but were not aware of the price to be paid somewhere down the line. Pretty soon we'll just be "sharecroppers" of this land.

the saudis have been the puppet masters of this whole thing. no way the u.s. goes into any opec country without the saudi approval stamp. within 6 months of a u.s. pullout, there will be a moderate muslim cleric, under the invisible but very heavy thumb of the house of saud, ruling iraq as a virtual theocratic dictator. the saudis have no time for democracy, but neither do they have any time for rogue dictators like saddam. saddam dug his grave when he invaded kuwait in 1990. the saudis have no time for shaking the tree branches. their fruit is growing much to well.
