Agapito Delgadillo

Well he seems to be doing pretty well at Hollywood. I know Baffert and Lukas are two famous trainers who made the leap from quarter horses to thoroughbreds, but has there been a famous jockey to make the jump?

Agapito's stats are 49-7-6-5 $228,288.00

im thinking there are any number of jocks that if they have the horse can stay out of trouble and win races..it really is about the horse..imo..my father with an o2 tank on his back could have won on dc....the thing is ..how you see the ones who allways find trouble...and continue to hurt you at the windows..

I'm pretty sure he did most of his riding on Thoroughbreds at Los Al, not Quarter Horses. If memory serves he was the leading TB rider there for years and years and years, so the jump would be from the small time to the big time. And in that case, yes. Many riders have accomplished the feat from small to big. (Tongue in cheek, you know...)

RARELY rode Quarters at Los Al. He took over Alex Batista as the nut jockey riding the hook races

Believe before he went down to Los Al that he was riding thoroughbreds up here in NO CAL at GG and Bay Meadows.

He has been the lucky soul that has had the mount for Jungle Prince of late.

Didn't he retire for a while an open up a mexican restaraunt and/or grocery store after riding NoCal circuit.

Around 1980 a Quarter horse ride named Terry Lipham made the jump from Los Alamitos to Santa Anita and did very well till he retired in 1988.

wasn't agapito the one who was sworving all over the hollywood grass, and got DQ'd. He was looking back and was off balance, then hit a horse right handed that was getting in and about dropped 2 or 3 horses.

Agapito was damn near an automatic single in the pick 4's at Los Al. Made some nice change with that angle.
