Jara dumps agent Romero

Kinda sad to see this. Randy Romero has been through a lot in life and took this kid's book when he was absolutely noone.
Romero's contract is up on February 5th and hes going with a new agent, although it doesn't say who.
Anybody have the inside track on whos taking his book?
The big time agents are all accounted for, so I have no idea who could have enticed him over Randy. The only I thing I can think of is that another jockey is about to make a move to a new agent and its freeing someone up to be Jara's agent.

that's no good. Jara had a great year -- at least on his big name mounts, and you've gotta think that Randy had something to do with getting him named on the better horses he's riding.

But that is just a rumor, and pure speculation on my part that Randy may have had something to do with that. I have no factual evidence, nor do I know anything as I am only barely older than a college student and know only a friend of a friend of a friend in the business.

Wild speculation over this sad move.

I smell a split coming between a top jock and an agent.
Its the only thing that makes sense. Jara is doing very well and I doubt that he just decided to dump Romero for no reason.
Someone who is a big agent whose about to lose a rider must have initiated this.

Oracle--could it be that a top jock might be moving his game to another location other than New York? But, I think you are right that a jock and agent are getting ready to split. Or maybe an agent is dumping a jock for Jara. That kid is 18 (I think) so he has tons of potential. He is in the good with Kiaran and that is a positive as well.

As far as Romero is concerned, he will bounce back. He seems to always do good no matter what. That man (like you said) has had a rough life. He is a good man and I wish the best for him.

I know it's business but how in the hell could someone fire a guy like Randy Romero? He's done an outstanding job getting this kid the right mounts.

I couldn't look the guy in the eye and tell him i'm picking another agent. Especially considering what Randy's been through and the sacrifices he's made to keep working.

Usually jockey/agent news doesn't interest me but this particular one is disconcerting.

Thats why I think someone big has to be freeing up and incited this.
Has to be someone big enough to convince the kid that he can get him in with more top stables than hes riding for now.
Frieze(Prado) sure won't be going anywhere, nor will Anderson(Gomez) or Cordero(Velazquez).
That leaves a pretty short list of guys who are considered top flight or who have some juice with trainers that would lead a guy to dump Randy.
I'm guessing word will leak out shortly.

It's at the top and bottom of the article.

wow, romero is a total class act -- at least here. i don't know him, but that's all class right there.

oracle80 11-28-2006 03:04 PM

LOL!!! Ok I get it now!!
I hadn't read any article on this, I was just told by someone that Jara had dumped Randy.
I completely get it now.
Gatewood Bell is the son of Jimmy Bell, the big honcho with the Sheikh's operation.
Yeah, I get it now, lol!!

Coach Pants 11-28-2006 03:04 PM

Gatewood Bell is the son of Jimmy Bell, President of Darley USA.

Figures.

First of all, day to day, Jara is less than a good jockey. He has gotten lucky because of his relationship with Kiaran. He is the absolute proof that it is horses, and not riders, that win races. He has shown unequivicably that a good horse can overcome a lot.

I don't know who is taking his book, though I am sure there is a lot more than meets the eye, and all this speculation is VERY likely missing the real story.

We just got the real story, Jimmy Bell's kid is taking his book.
I think thats pretty self explanatory.

OK, if you think that's the real story, that's great.

I'm not normally one for conjecture, but has there ever been an article that should have had one of those smiley faces with a winking eye attached to it? It would have been a nice little touch for this one.

If you are saying that perhaps it isn't, then I believe you.

What is that saying...there are 3 sides to the story--your side, their side and the truth.
