It's worth reading the fine print in the race conditions. Of those $1 million+ races, most of them include a large amount (generally around $400,000) from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development fund, so many of the net purses for non-KY breds is around $600,000. It pays to have a KY bred at KY Downs.

This was manifested in last year's version of the Kentucky Turf Club, which was featured as a $1 million purse. It was won by Red Knight, a New York bred. His share of the purse was $317,130, which is what the winner of a $550,000 race should reasonably expect. Fortunately, the purse of Saturday's feature has been significantly increased.

It appears that the top jockeys and trainers in the East would agree with you. With NYRA not running this weekend, much of New York's jockey colony has chosen to go where the money is.

Ruff, to quote an Indiana Jones movie line, "You chose wisely." :)
