5/17: Horseshoe Indy (Caesar's Day Stakes)

HORSESHOE INDY

POST-SCRATCHES

5th: MSW, 3+, 1m-T (P5, P3, DD)

Thought first turf Cox filly Double Barrel (Scat Daddy mare) might be a heavy lean when looking at PP's first glance, but there are several eligible for graduation including pair of Calumet English Channels that go Sisterson to Rodriguez AND Rodriguez to Arnold. Walsh and Thomas have interesting players too. Hmm..

Most Likely: #3 Double Barrel 4-1 WON ($8.40)
Best Value: #5 Quiet Ride 8-1 3rd
Next Best: #4 Ghost Coast 3-1 4th
Exotics Use: #8 Midnight Channel 20-1 9th

6th: Sagamore-Sired-IN, 3yo, 5.5f (P4, P3, DD, .10 Hi-5)

Wildly competitive group and think you have to give the edge to the ones that have made a seasonal debut already..

Best Value: #6 Fruitcake 20-1 8th
Next Best: #4 Spot On Justice 8-1 3rd
Exotics Use: #7 Butch's Best 8-1 4th
Super Add: #3 Rock the Red 12-1 7th

7th: Horseshoe Indy, 3yo-F, 1m-T (P3, DD, .10 Hi-5)

From a non-turf family, Capella (half to Bonny South) tries lawn and seems very iffy v. Work of Fiction and Mrs. Astor who are credentialed for surface. Rest of the field would have to jump up to overtake the obvious players, but they aren't too far removed them..

Best Value: #3 Work of Fiction 4-1 6th
Next Best: #1 Mrs. Astor 7-2 4th
Exotics Use: #2 Capella 5-2 5th
Super Add: #4 Mohawk Trail 6-1 2nd

8th: Caesar's H., 3yo, 1m-T (DD, .10 Hi-5)

Cox barn was heartsick that Wadsworth was marooned on American Turf AE list and Dude N Colorado is a bad favorite..

Most Likely: #1 WADSWORTH 7-2 2nd
Best Value: #11 Gigante 8-1 WON ($68.00)
Next Best: #9 Ocean Pointe 6-1 4th
Exotics Use: #8 Midnight Rising 8-1 7th

9th: Swifty-Sired-IN, 3yo-F, 5.5f (DD, .10 Hi-5)

Most Likely: #10 Brittanysgldnfaith 5-2 3rd
Best Value: #4 Wildcat Justice 5-1 2nd
Next Best: #8 Imagine the Moon 7-2 7th
Exotics Use: #5 Forever Noted 6-1 WON ($23.20)

Good luck Steve.

In that 5th race, I’m not overly impressed with any of the top selections. I wonder if Winston Wolf is worth a long look with Saez getting the Mount and him being a half sibling to Devine Charger (flashed some turf talent in sprints, broke her maiden and finished 2nd in a photo finish in last year’s Mamzelle overnight stakes at churchill last year.) Adds lasix. The works look pretty unremarkable but I dislike the others enough here to take a swing.

Welp, first impression of 5th that Cox was potential single moving to turf was right.. Wasted 2 multiples going 3 deep..

Quite welcome Tom! Fun result there as Gigante looked like the only possible upset candidate. Heard from quite a few other hitters too including NHC Champ Ray Arsenault who never met a 30-1 shot he didn't like.
