Steve

Can you explain this to me as I am not familiar with GB racing.

What does $5 Each way mean? Is that Win/Place?
What does Places mean as in (6 Places)

Thanks

Hi Jim,

You’re correct - each way is just win and place, a common phrase that we would use over here for that type of bet.

The number of places is interesting. Traditionally, place terms would generally have been 2 places in races with less than 8 runners, 3 places for races between 8 and 15 runners and 4 places for races with 16 runners or more. However, one of the benefits of lots of bookmaker competition is that they have now started offering better place terms so in race 3 yesterday, all I needed was a horse to be in the first 6 and I would get paid out (however, in that race, my horses came home 9th and 10th).

Place terms are also usually set at 1/5 the odds of the win odds.
