Small Fields Discussion
 

From time to time we bemoan the fact that a particular high level stakes race has only drawn a small number of entries. The linked article tries to address this issue with a number of possible explanations and a focus on the current Saratoga meeting. I thought that it was a worthwhile read. Some of the possible reasons are thought provoking.

The comment that I took most to heart came from Christophe Clement - that just because a race has a short field doesn't mean that it is a bad field.

Well not to many of our liking, it all makes sense to me. It has been a strange 17-18 months impacting just about everything we used to take for granted (maybe good thing) and will continue for who knows how long and like many sports, thoroughbred horse racing is going through some uncomfortable changes.
