Worst rule in the history of horse racing.

A player might construct a $96.00 Pick 5 with the entire and complete basis of the play being that he HATED the favorite in the 2nd race.

Then through no fault of his own he's forced to take a horse that was the reason he made the play:zz:

Are you kidding me?

There's got to be a way to make that more equitable?

i agree so much with you vic

but,, what would be the answer? what do you think a new rule should be? your right about what you said,, i based the bet on not including the favorite in that race,,,i just dont know what the answer would be be interested to hear what you have to say,,,and others

Alternates in case of scratches. I thought there used to be a way to do this on pick 6 tickets.

Did you hit the bet ?

I'm pretty sure there's a way a ticket card with alternates can be scanned into the pools.

More equitable would be a refund for the reduced combinations covered. If you think through all the permutations of using alternates (cause you can't just use one). These include the on track delays in entering tickets; inevitable arguments on cost of ticket when someone uses too many alternates; what happens when you use more horses than the remaining alternates and it is a turf race that comes off and 60% of field scratches. There are many many more. You very quickly find yourself down a rabbits hole of alternate rules. Years ago when I had to use an offshore book I remember they simply refunded and I was ok with that.
