The Derby winner 2021

Tapit with 2 big chances this year. He hasn't had much impact in either the Derby or the Preakness to this point (only a show placing in each). However, he pretty much lords over the Belmont Stakes.

I’m hearing the Beyer came back as an 83 for today.

I think Shug has a good horse in this one. He looks great and moves great. I'm not going to be worried about the Beyers yet. Ran like a good thing today.

You should be worried about the BSF. The pace was slow, and the race was slow, and the waters get much deeper and faster. He certainly can keep improving, and it certainly would be a great storyline for Shug and Mr. Adam. I am hoping he keeps improving, but he will have to run much faster, and Jose was into this colt a long time before he caught the winner and eased away.

I hear you on all of that Freddy and it is definitely a concern. Jose seemed to have him way back and not sure if it was Jose or the horse, either way, it's an issue.

Looked like a future Belmont winner to me. Not too sure about the other legs....

Given the remainder of the card not having another two-turn race on it, I won't put too much stock into the exact Beyer figure. It's obviously a tough task for them to come up with a figure for that race. It's worth noting that Timeform had Greatest Honour as a 112.

Regardless, he will need to improve to win the Derby...but that's true of pretty much every horse on the trail based on their top races thus far. He remains a contender, in my opinion, but I think we will start seeing some horses in the next few weeks that push him into the 2nd tier of Derby horses. But we'll see.
