ROI Results 7/27 @ Saratoga

Saratoga on Saturday provided some good racing action and a few winning bets. While only 3
points slots were filled, 4 players made a trip to the cashiers window. Cal hit a trifecta in race 11
but it wasn't enough to show a profit. 3 players battled it out for the top spot and "Are You Kitten
Me?" , it wasn't Ruffian on top. Ruff played what is considered a favorite for her as Shekky
Shebaz won the 3rd race but only paid $15.20. The morning line of 15-1 was not so accurate at
post time so Ruff had to settle for 3rd place. The number two slot goes to our point scorer
Plenilune. Plen was on point with a $50 win bet on first timer Lexintonia in the second race
and got back a grand total of $215 on the $8.60 win. This week's winner was NJ Stinks and he
wasn't "kitten around" in race 7 with his selection of the 6 horse. Are You Kitten Me, an offspring
of Kitten's Joy, paid NJS $12.20 for each $2 wager and propeled him to a Saratoga win.
Congrats on the win NJ Stinks. Nicely played on kudos on finding a double digit first timer.
Following are the unofficial results pending any objections. See you all next week wherever
we wind up.

*** So much for morning line numbers
I should’ve known based on the JOCKEY
that the odds would go lower just not that low!

In case anybody is wondering why I did not play CHANNEL CAT :{>:

With the quality of horses in that race I honestly did not think he would win
That’s what I get for Overthinking = ROI victory :zz: :(

David Aragona does a wonderful job in making the NYRA morning line, but he does have several challenges at Saratoga, especially on big race weekends. There are many more patrons on track, not all of whom are dyed in the wool handicappers. They may be more motivated to wager by humorous names or jockeys or trainers than just speed figures. Based on that, his ML can sometimes miss the mark by quite a lot. Shekky Shebaz was one case in point. It's also possible that fans saw "Rice" as the trainer and noticed that Linda Rice is a leading NY trainer, neglecting to notice that the owner/trainer was Adam Rice and his horse was being shipped from Presque Isle.

Sunday's Saratoga Special interviewed the connections of this winner and learned from Adam's mother that when he was a kid he used to watch The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - in one episode the Will Smith character told someone his name was "Shekky, Shekky Shebaz." Years later, the name reappeared in equine form.

Those major misses of the ML work both ways. The winner of yesterday's finale was 12-1 in the ML; it paid $81 to win. Tote watchers can profit from these differentials. Unfortunately, our ROI doesn't let us do that.
