Churchill Downs November 24 Points Picks go here

We will be going to Churchill Downs for our November 24 contest, to accompany all of the delicious leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner.

We will only be playing races 1 through 11.

Please have your selections posted on this thread not later than first post of 1:00 PM Eastern time.

Good luck to all and thank you to Plenilune for scoring.

I'd like to express my disagreement with the way that Ruffian has posted picks for Race 4. I have always thought that we were permitted to make 5 picks in each race, and would be scored on the first three on our list that actually ran. The extra two picks were to provide a cushion in case a couple of our picks scratched. That provides some protection for players who post picks early and then tend to other responsibilities on the day of the race, or to take into account massive late scratches if a race is taken off of the turf late in the day.

As I understand the picks for Race 4, Ruffian would like to also include a selection of a 6th pick, just in case both of the two AE horses (#13 & #16) do not run and someone else scratches. If we are allowed 5 choices, why should any player be able to make a 6th choice, just in case some picks don't run? To me, that is no different than saying that I would like to also pick #6 in addition to my 5 just in case several of my other picks are scratched. The fact that a couple of our selections are "also eligible", making the chances of their not running somewhat higher, really should not make a difference.

I may be off base in making this observation. If so, I'll be glad to apologize. But I would like to have our other more experienced players weight in on whether "you may pick 5 horses" really means "you may pick 5 horses", or whether it can mean something beyond that just because some horses are stuck on an also eligible list.

Thank you. You made a change for the better.

No ruffled feathers, though. Just a feeling that we should all be playing on the same level field, whether we are playing for matchsticks or gold.

Picking a 6th horse in case of scratch is not allowed, simple. To reiterate your 4th and 5th picks are allowed to cover scratches. Don't know why this is questioned. Don't know why we need an "additional number." ESSSSSH! But if anyone want's to pick be silly enough to pick 6,7,8 or all entries, go ahead, but only the first 5 will be counted in the order posted.:zz::confused: But, so we keep the consistency we've had here for so many years, SCRATCH that last comment.

Wow - could be the most rearranging of selections that I'd had to do in quite a while. Not exactly the race card that I originally handicapped, but it is the one before us, so here goes:

R1: 4-2-3-12-5
R2: 2-4-11-7-5
R3: 6-10-8-11-5
R4: 4-6-7-2-12
R5: 9-5-11-2-4
R6: 19-14-1-8-13
R7: 8-6-4-9-7
R8: 3-6-10-2-9
R9: 5-8-3-2-7
R10: 1-9-4-12-6
R11: 1-13-4-9-6

Good luck to all. My great thanks and appreciation to Plenilune for scoring what I am sure will be a real challenge with all of the scratches and changes.

Couldn't agree with you more Joly. I was totally lost BEFORE the scratches and now I'm Lost in the Fog.

Aww, come on. We all needed a bit of a shake up after all that tryptophan and those carbs from Thanksgiving dinner, right?
