Battle of Midway retired

Nice job Winstar!

RHT2004 11-10-2017 07:25 PM

Silly decision. He kind of put it all together 7 days ago. Could have been a Cigar Mile, Carter, Met Mile player moving forward. I guess those races don't matter.

ummmm why???? like RHT pointed out he just finally got it and could of been anything next year

Sad to say that Battle of Midway broke down this morning at Santa Anita and had to be put down. Just awful.

Just read...Rest in Peace Champ

Jeremy Balan tweeted:
Grade 1 winner Battle of Midway broke down this morning at Santa Anita, according to Don Alberto racing manager Fernando Diaz-Valdes. They're trying to save him, but Diaz-Valdes said "the vets say there's no way." Diaz-Valdes said the horse shattered his pastern in a hind leg.

Everyone wants to believe their horse is the second coming of Seabiscuit.
Once they are let down it is just about impossible to have the patience to bring them back to top form.
The "he's standing there not making us millions" syndrome.

WTF are you talking about with this nonsense? After moderate tries in his first 2 comeback races (Pat O'Brien/Kelso), he had won 3 of last 4 including beating McKinzie in the G2 San Pasqual on February 2.. And the loss was a 2nd to Gift Box who'll be co-fave with McKinzie in the Big Cap.

He was a 5yo racehorse fully capable of competing at the same level he did before the stallion season as shown by his performances. Of course Don Alberto & WinStar would have him in training.

FATPIANO 02-27-2019 02:47 PM

He was a very very good horse. And it is a loss for all of us. 3rd in Derby.and a BC mile winner at 3. Truly a gifted horse....RIP BUDDY
