i always thought striking another horse with the whip was an automatic dq but i guess its the stewards discretion huh.

every inquiry i have ever seen was a takedown involving a stray whip, it must be the did..... not effect the order of finish. i could answer with in matter when you get in purse distribution. the 7 was pulled up and might have continued on for a % point or two more for a fifth or sixth place finish.

Saratoga 10th

I thought it was an automatic DQ, will have to watch the context.

The stewards in Saratoga are way to hung up using the "did it cost a horse a placing" which has led to a lot of rough race riding.
