question about observation

in all the time I have been watching horse racing, I never get why a horse who seemingly has run shoot down on the inside and they cant keep going or accelerate through, rarely have I seen a horse with run go on the inside and just zoom on through. But yet it it would seem a very smart and logical move taking the shortest path, but yet horses that pass from outside wins much more frequently. Can someone educate me please

Horses get timid inside. They run to space. Uncomfortable when crowded.

Its a lot like driving on a tight highway. Much more comfortable doing 70 MPH outside of another car, or even between fast moving cars, between a car and a stationary object, like a guardrail, not so much.

all true...But the really game, tough horses can go the inside route. They are the non-timid ones to look for.

At some tracks the rail is dead. When it's golden, it's going to be occupied already by the time the horse makes its move.

Also if the race in contentious paths 2 , 3 and 4 are already occupied so if you can't get through ball game is over.

2002 test stakes

One of the best races i've ever seen (also cost me a p6) and prime example of of a game horse scraping paint and a ballsy ride by Bailey. Frankel was beaming

or jersey walls. how some people drive near those....what, it's not going to jump out and get you!

who was the 4 in that race???? looked like they were about to run by everyone coming out of the final turn......

Perfect example was today at Del Mar race 6, the 1 was super loaded and instead of going outside Baze decides to shoot on the inside then it takes a few jumps for him to pass the horse but it's too late as the 2 came flying on the outside
