DRF Ticketmaker

Instead of doing a caveman ticket I used the
ticketmaker using A's and B's all the horses
came in but I didn't win - is there a certain number
of A horses that have to come in to guarantee a win?

Not sure how youre ticket was structured.

Usually you bet

A/A/A/A
B/A/A/A
A/B/A/A
A/A/B/A
A/A/A/B

Depending how much you are looking to invest
B/B/B/B
A/B/B/B

and so on. Sometimes people use C's too.

Thanks for your help :tro:
Is there a way to know the percentages of how
much you need to bet to get a win? If you do a "caveman"
ticket and all your horses come in you win. If you use
A,B,C method it seems you rely on luck and there isn't
a way to know if you will win

IMO, The idea of the ABC method is to minimize your investment and possibly have multiple tickets if all your "A"s hit.

Regarding the certain number of A's vs. B, and C's really depend on how many horses are in the race and how strongly you feel about your selections.

BTW my ticket was structured as such

R7 4a,8b,11b
R8 7a,1b,9b
R9 3a,6a, 1b,5b,9b
R10 4a,5a 2b
R11 7a 2b,5b
R12 12a 6b,11b

Results were 4-9-3-2-5-6

One other question - would you rather make a $40 p6 x5 per week
or do 1 day for $200 Thank you!

It all depends on how good you believe your handicapping is.

I think the thing about the A/B/C method is, usually an all A ticket is a smaller & cheaper ticket, so you are supposed to punch it a few times.

An example is the Presidents day card at Santa Anita, the early pick 5 looked very formful and could've been punched a few times for a very small number.

Personally, I feel like the Gulfstream cards have been borderline impossible and would need to throw a lot more money at those sequences. There have been a lot of quirky results.

Everybody plays it differently, but regardless on which method you use, you definitely need some racing luck.

hmmm for me that might be true for a p3 or p4 I don't know
if I could do have A's on a p6 only going 1,2 deep - not that good yet lol :wf

Truthfully, if you are looking at budget restrictions, pick 6's are probably the worst bet for you. I'd rather take that $40 a day and try to play the best pick3 or pick 4 sequence I could find where I have a solid opinion.
