NYRA ends replay show...

Disappointed about this. "Insider" and "The National Racing Report" were more than replay shows.

DRF | NYRA ends replay show, will focus on live coverage

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Beginning Friday, the New York Racing Association no longer will air its nightly 30-minute recap show or the “National Racing Report” on the Madison Square Garden network.

NYRA’s contract with MSG to air the show, known as “Insider,” expires Thursday, and NYRA plans to put its resources into a live show on MSG-Plus beginning sometime during the Belmont spring-summer meet, according to David O’Rourke, NYRA’s vice president and chief revenue officer.

“We’re shifting our resources from doing a recap show to live coverage,” O’Rourke said. “Live coverage will be focused around Belmont and Saratoga. We’re likely to continue to do shows like the ‘National Racing Report’ and ‘Trips and Traps,’ but we’re going to be using our online medium more.”

The nightly show, hosted for many years by Harvey Pack, is believed to have started in 1981. “Inside Racing,” as it was known for most of its run, was basically a 30-minute recap of the day’s racing card at Aqueduct, Belmont, or Saratoga. Jason Blewitt began hosting the show in 2005. Recently, the format had changed to show some replays of the day’s races while offering a preview of the next day’s card.

O’Rourke said that with replays so easy for people to access online, it didn’t make sense to continue with the same format.

“We have a limited amount of resources for coverage,” he said. “We felt we’d better shift it over to the live racing product rather than do something where people are used to getting replays right on their app.”

While I won't be back at NYRA until the first week of March, I believe we plan to continue the National Racing Report. Keep in mind, we did that show for years for the NYRA Network and our website before it moved to MSG+.

half the people who watch the show haven't even heard of the internet. they should get a guest host colorful character to do the show once a week

What, no more Blewitt, I'm heart broken. I still miss Pack. Saw Insider the other day with Travis Stone and liked it though. Blewitt to PR/marketing dept ;)

Look at you, so proud of yourself for taking anonymous shots on the internet.

You would be lucky to work with a guy like Jason.

And a lot of us on this site would enjoy your current gig. Warm weather, great food, great sights and sitting next to Gabby... Good Luck. GP is really difficult for me at this point with the exception of the 5.0 T Sprints.

Just my opinion BTW, your loyalty to JB has been previously noted, but to me he is a wannabe, big mouth who adds little ofworth to the shows. give me travis ,or brian spencer or mig or tammaro Beer litfin, etc. AND NO I would seek other work if i was paired with JB . Jb is a big boy and doesnot need youto speak for him too.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but what does a wannabe big mouth mean? I could understand if you said he was a bad capper or always pushes chalk, but that's some strange criticism. I think he comes across very well. I've also had pleasure of meeting him a few times and he's come across as a really good guy.

This shows how little you know about him. Jason is a terrific broadcaster and, more importantly, a stand-up guy. This should be beneath you Benny.

Pretty hard not to like Jason Blewitt, the person or the TV personality?

Thanks.

It's tricky but there are plenty of opportunities, you just have to be willing to bet a lot of horses that run poorly.

First....he's not a wannabe, as he IS the host of the NYRA TV signal. Second, he's not a big mouth at all. He's a gracious host and a wonderful co-worker.

Jason is the host. In many ways this is a thankless job. His job is to keep things moving and he does a great job in that role. You don't like him. Fine. Everyone has their own taste, but your personal criticisms of him are not only unwarranted, they are unfair.

Look at it this way....the poor guy has to put up with me for a good 30 hours a week. The vast majority of saints would turn that down.

That would be really great if you guys continue The National Racing Report. I've used it for recaps prior to the BC the past several years and have greatly enjoyed it.

I love the show. I pushed for doing it as our first show when we took over the NYRA Network from NYC OTB.
