Tap to It Works 7/8ths for Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies
By Michael Vesce, Belmont Park, 2015-10-07-DRF Live Posted : Oct 7, 2015, 10:23 AM TAP TO IT, runner-up in the the G1 Spinaway Stakes to Rachel's Valentina, breezed 7/8ths of a mile this morning over the Belmont main track 3 1/2 weeks prior to the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. The gray daughter of Tapit began with fractions of 12.80, 24.40, 36.00, cruising to the top of the lane in a speedy 59.00. She was under some mild encouragement by Joel Rosario finishing okay to the wire in 1:24.00 and did gallop out a strong mile in 1:37.20. This was the first time I've seen this filly work and it seems like she has some of the mental traits that Tapit offspring usually inherit. She had her head cocked a bit and was trying to lug out a tad as well but the talent is clearly evident. More to come from colleague Dave Grening as to her shipping plans for Lexington. |

That workout could have been a Grade 1 win if they had run her this weekend in the Frizette. How do people leave odds-on favorites in the barn for $400K Grade 1 races? |
Nyquist had shock-wave therapy Sept. 29
By Jay Privman The unbeaten 2yo colt Nyquist worked a half-mile in 52 seconds today, and the work tab lists him as being on the vet's list. A check of the CHRB vet's list shows he had shock-wave therapy on Sept. 29, three days after he won the FrontRunner. This is a perfectly legal treatment, but rules are in place so horses can't race within a defined time after having the treatment. Being as Nyquist will not race again until the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on Oct. 31, he's well within the rules, but it certainly seems something worth noting/following over the next few weeks. Earlier this year, Firing Line had shockwave therapy in advance of the Sunland Derby, which he won. He later was second in the Kentucky Derby. He has not raced since the Preakness Stakes. |
We have the most exciting Medaglia D'Oro filly since Rachel Alexandra, and a filly actually out of Rachel Alexandra, running in the Juvie Fillies. Awesome. :{>:

Not going to make the J-Fillies, but Asmussen/Rutherford Sat. KEE maiden winner Stageplay (Curlin) looks like she's a serious horse.
|
Gulfstream Park stakes winner Fellowship is possible for the BC Juvenile according to a tweet from the @derbycontenders account yesterday. Don't know much about him, but he looked good when I watch the replay.

Sticksstatelydude back in Juvenile picture
By David Grening Trainer and part-owner Greg Burchell was on the fence about whether to point STICKSSTATELYDUDE to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. But after watching his horse put in a solid workout Friday morning at Keeneland --he went a half-mile in 48.13 seconds out five furlongs in 1:02.13 per DRF clocker Mike Welsch -- Burchell said the horse will be pre-entered Monday for the $2 million race on Oct. 31. Sticksstatelydude won a maiden race at Saratoga in his second career start and then had to scratch from the Grade 1 Hopeful on Sept. 7 due to a temperature. He ran fourth in the Breeders' Futurity on Oct. 3. "He's as good as I've seen him, he's moving forward," Burchell said Friday morning from Keeneland. "We got our money in the office and we'll see how it shakes out." On Monday, Burchell told me he was leaning more toward running Sticksstatelydude in the Street Sense at Churchill Downs on Nov. 1. But after watching him work and talking to lifelong friend and fellow trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, Burchell opted for the Breeders' Cup. "He said that colt belongs in the race," Burchell said, referring to McLaughlin. "He said 'If he were in my barn there would be no doubt that's where I'd run him' " Joel Rosario, aboard for Sticksstatelydude's win at Saratoga, is expected to ride him in the Breeders' Cup. |
Exaggerator tunes up for Juvenile
By Mike Welsch EXAGGERATOR, runner-up in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity here earlier this month, turns in an easy 5/8's maintenance breeze for trainer Keith Desormeaux completing distance in 1:03.20 with a final quarter in 24.65 before galloping out six furlongs in 1:16.40 with jockey Florent Geroux up. |
I see all of those AEs for the juvy turf and wish there was somehow extra money to run that race in divisions lol
