Luminance and the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

Luminance is the 9/5 ML favorite for tomorrow's Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. This past summer I wrote a piece on her after she broke her maiden and shattered a Del Mar track record. Here is what she's done since.

IMO she seems to have a clear early pace advantage in this race and will be tough to beat.

Definitely looks like the one to catch here. Curious to see if Devine Aida pushes her early

I guess you handicapped the race better than Garcia . He must have felt he was better off grabbing and letting Pauline stroll around.

"I told (Garcia), 'You just took her best weapon away from her,' " Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said of Luminance. "She needed the lead. She couldn't get it, so after that she wasn't effective at all. We would have preferred to be on the lead."

"We never got to the front. That's all," Garcia said.

Yeah, with Dortmund. He'd have to, to keep Mr Z honest. AP is more tractable, and would tuck in behind them, especially from the one hole, hopefully close enough to pick up the pieces. If Lukas doesn't give his jock orders to try to steal it on the front end I will eat oats, hay and water for the rest of my days.
The main problem for AP is the post. He should be able to get to the outside, since AP has proven to be fairly maneuverable. Unless the jock is totally in a stupor, he will get AP outside. I just hope he doesn't get trapped behind a wall of horse's rear ends, with somebody snickering next to him.

early odds favor AP 3/5 , FL 5/2 , Dortman 7/1
