Turf Classic

Any thoughts on this race??????? I really don't know who is going. I guess English Channel, Shirroco, The Tin Man and Hurrican Run. Anyone know any info on this race?

It was last week.

The Turf Classic is at Belmont- you mean the BC Turf?

Field is definitely in flux. I've heard Hurricane Run will NOT run, that's not confirmed though.

The Turf Classic was run last week at Belmont . From what I read the only top Euro that is fairly definite for the BC Turf is Shirroco. Hurricane and Dylan out. The Arc winner, runner up, and Deep Impact out. If the turf is firm, Shirroco can be tossed. Looks like the Americans should have a good showing this year.

Love to get some nice odds on Cacique(6/1) in this 1

The Tin Man will not run the 1/2mile in 5 yrs like the Arlington Race and EC just does not have it

just curious.....why doesn't EC have it?

Linny 10-13-2006 10:05 AM

EC didn't beat much last week. The two Euro fillies were decent but hardly G1 runners. The Irish colt (Frosty Giant?) was unproven in Europe but looked like he could have won the thing had he not been squeezed in the lane. I don't think anyone thinks Icy Atlantic and Interpatation are G1 turf routers.
This is usually one of my favorite divisions and the best BC race but this year I'm bored with it. Last year I hit the superfecta, this year, I may pass the race.

tycharles01 10-13-2006 10:07 AM

Well has not been looking good beside that big race he just had LOL. In the Arlington did not look that great I know he was bumped at the start

Last Race He has a rabbit and 2 females, and 2 horses that could not win Grade 3 races. I know it was just a prep but come on

By all means tho please support him, all it does is raise the price on the winner CACIQUE

so...you are judging EC just on last week alone?? There is not a bigger EC fan in the world than me, but in no way was I about to get excited about last weeks race either. But he has run some very strong races this year.

Thunder Gulch 10-13-2006 10:08 AM

It doesn't appear as if a large Euro contingent is making the trip, so I'd favor the best of the bunch in Shirocco. I bet him last year because he loved the soft stuff and there was a lot of rain leading up to the BC. If it comes up even a touch soft, that's the likely choice, though not at the generous price of 2005. Last year I declared that English Channel was the most likely winner of the 2006 BC, but not ready. After his last out, definately one to include. This is one of my favorite races on the card every year, and it is always a tough betting race, so price is paramount.

Sooooooo...him beating Cacique in the Woodford and the UN makes EC what???

tycharles01 10-13-2006 10:12 AM

Only way Shirocco wins is it it rains the whole week before the race and the turf is soft, anything that resembles firm and the horse could crumble

and EC beating him was earlier in the year, I think Cacique is hitting his stride. If this race was in April I would have said EC as the winner but its not April. Dont get me wrong EC will hit the board or 4th at worse but wont win this race

SniperSB23 10-13-2006 10:16 AM

Confirmed:
Shirocco
English Channel
Cacique
The Tin Man
TH Approval

Speculation:
Go Deputy
Ace
Revved Up
Embossed
Relaxed Gesture
Better Talk Now
Silver Whistle
Ivan Denisovich
Cosmonaut

tycharles01 10-13-2006 10:20 AM

I agree...all out in his last to hold off TH Approval. If TTM had run those same fractions in the Million, EC and Cacique both would have been kind enough to stop and offer him milk and cookies as they strolled on by him.

I have nothing against The Tin Man...or Cacique...or any turf horse really. My loyalties have been with EC since I first saw him in person last year at Colonial. I had seen him race prior, but it wasn't until I saw him race live that I became the huge fan I am now.

No way no how. I know this is hypothetical and I actually liked Frost Giant in here but he would not have beaten English Channel. Maybe that pinching cost him 2nd but EC was a winner no matter what.

Disgraceful excuse for a grade 1 race on what was supposed to be Super Saturday. Good prep for EC and you never know, any of the Americans (EC, Cacique and Tin Man) can win with a little luck.

And that bump at the start of the Arlington Million didnt cost EC a chance at the win in my opinion. Hes good but not good enough to chase down the Tin Man after allowing him to dictate the race. Bump or no bump, I doubt he was any better than 3rd best.

eurobounce 10-13-2006 10:38 AM

Seems like a small field. Small field, pace can win the race. Tin Man could get some easy fractions if no more than 7 show up.

No one was getting by TTM after those very slow fractions....plain and simple. He is too good a horse for that.
