GRENING: Godolphin only, no more Darley
Godolphin only, no more Darley
Continuing a pattern that was started in Australia and Europe last year, Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum's horses will race in the U.S. only under the Godolphin Racing banner and no longer under the Darley Stable moniker. In past years, Sheikh Mohammed's runners have run in both the blue silks of Godolphin and the maroon silks of Darley. Some handicappers felt horses who began their careers in the Godolphin blue silks were better horses than those who debuted in the maroon colors of Darley. Darley will continue as the breeding arm of Sheikh Mohammed's racing empire. "It's a reflection of brand of Godolphin globally," said Jimmy Bell, the head of Godolphin/Darley U.S. On Sunday, at Aqueduct, Dickinson, a maiden, ran third as the 2-1 second choice in the $100,000 Ruthless Stakes. Dickinson showed up on the overnight as racing under Darley, but raced in Godolphin's blue silks. |
