Saratoga Highlight
I have to say my best moment at Saratoga was hanging around with Steve Byk. He seems like a nice guy on the radio and I listen to him every day, but in person he's a great guy

Joe. Awfully nice of you to say. Was great to see you. Has been a whirlwind meet with a chance to see so many DTers, ATR listeners and Thoro-Graph players. Barney and Dell and Co. on hand this past Travers weekend as well as Peter B., Noodles, Scott B., Kenny Papp and more. The Popyaks and Larry K. on deck for their annual Labor Day visit.. Hope a few more will swing through these last 6 cards and Dee Tee expecting a start from Pretension Saturday yet too.

All weekend I was on the lookout for the legend.....no dice maybe next summer. Great place though and everything its made out to be it really is for those who have yet to take the toga plunge

But yes the place is like a horseplayers' Disney World with Steve playing Walt. Great seeing everyone and sorry for missing some. Always a brilliant time and lets face it, we're all getting older so don't miss it next year if you have an inclination to go, whether it be your first time or 30th time. |
This year was my 38th year. I generally go for the Whitney and the sales. I have found that most people who go once return year after year. I've made so many friends who I see only once a year, who come from all over the world and return the same weeks every year. Luckily with email, we are able to keep in touch through the year. I do the same at Santa Anita and that's great, but Saratoga is in a league of it's own.
I like telling people "Once you go, you always go". Last year I had a broken arm and couldn't drive. Some friends called me up and said "Joe, you have to go. We'll pick you up and take you". They did and helped me the whole way. That's the way it is at Saratoga. |
Absolutely, been going since I was a kid with my grandfather, and having the opportunity to being my 3 kids the past few years it has been great. special place for sure. Always love Saratoga in the summer and fairgrounds in NOLA in winter

I made my first trip to the spa last Friday (Personal Ensign day) and missed out on my chance to meet the legend as well, looking forward to going back next year as it is truly an event unlike any other in racing.
My highlights were getting to watch the red jacket ceremony and on a more related note, in the 9th race when the horse named Steve ran (I had a bet on him of course) and Tom Durkin called "and here comes Steve!" and the whole crowd in unison went "Steve!" Unfortunately Steve the horse couldn't sustain his run but hopefully Steve the radio host can continue crushing the field for years to come. |
It's was my first year in several I did not see the The Legend :(
But, I did see Durkin on his scooter ! |
