So... any chance of getting Steve Coburn on ATR today?

If so, hope it goes well...

Why? To hear him say more silly things and take away further from the accomplishments of all the performers and connections on a spectacular day of racing? Not to mention diminishing Art and Alan Sherman and the horse's solid try..

You didn't hear from him when he was saying his nonsense about Derby/CD and you won't now. That's the whole point. He thinks he's the story.

Owners will always say things. It's the horses that do the talking.

I agree. Obviously I was kidding a little, but didn't know what the plans were. If he had never blown a gasket on Saturday, probably would have wanted to hear about future plans for Chrome.

Nothing to talk about. Ol Wilford Braveheart will take the "cowards" route and never cross the Rockies again.

He'll have a few more sulks and many sessions of comfort eating. Many sleeps. Dreams of being a modern day blend of Captain America/Slim Pickens/Uncle Scrooge

Always take these apologies with a grain of salt, I prefer people just stating their opinion and let me decide how much merit there is, not what public pressure should tell someone to say.

There ya go! Personally I do not believe Chrome was as good as many of the horses that have failed to win the Triple Crown in recent years (Silver Charm, Smarty Jones, Point Given, even Big Brown), so it didn't bother me that he lost (though with Chrome grabbing a quarter, in hindsight, he didn't run too bad). I'm not even sure if Chrome is as good as the filly that won the Oaks. Chrome's owner is a silly man, I was thinking to myself "He must just be really drunk" when he first commented after the race... but the next morning he just made sure he let the world know that he's an idiot.

The Triple Crown should not be changed, should not have more spacing. I'd rather the drought continue than see the Triple Crown diminished by making changes.

and he's supposed to the PR person for this racing team
the extent of his charisma is eclipsed by a box of lucky charms
respect is earned not mandated

I got on the internet last night and saw this poll come up about Coburn's comments and the Triple Crown. I voted so I could see the results and copy and pasted them to post here. Knowing that the vast majority of people who voted in this just tune in for the Triple Crown, the results don't mean much to me. But, I did think it was interesting to see that "Yes, it is fair" got about the same votes as "Who cares about horse racing?"

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
After California Chrome failed to nab the Triple Crown, Steve Coburn blasted other owners for taking 'the coward’s way out.' Do you think it's fair for some horses to compete only in the final race?

22 % Yes. Owners should get to decide.
91,989 votes

55 % No. They shouldn't be eligible for it.
225,914 votes

3 % It depends on the situation.

20 % Who cares about horse racing?

Billy Reed sums it up nicely. He also takes the time to school Christine Brennan who embarrassed herself by agreeing with Coburn's original idiotic premise: http://www.kyforward.com/our-horses/...r-bad-manners/

That's a great article; thank you for the link.

I really liked the $1 million bonus VISA gave to the horse that amassed the most points in all 3 races; I wish racing could find a sponsor to bring that back, because it meant there would be some sort of overall "winner" every year, no matter whether a TC was a possibility or not.

yep, and i bet you'd have more participation in the other 2 legs if there was an assured bonus to the top point getter.
