Most likely reason California Chrome will lose

This is overdue.

I didn't see overcoming the mush as an option, so I chose the closest alternative.

Isn't The Mush on Wicked Strong?

dalakhani 06-05-2014 05:37 AM

I'm worried about the break.

Benny 06-05-2014 07:07 AM

And the most likely answer is not on the list ?

He is a little tired as lessening win margins show, and there are fresh quality horses waiting to run their best race. (Wicked Strong , Tonalist)

Danzig 06-05-2014 07:34 AM

why would he lose?
another horse gets to the finish line first.

It's it true they are considering you for the new TVG analyst position?

:D

i thought it would get someone to respond!

seriously tho...sometimes horses lose. he might. there may be no reason why, other than another horse had a better day.

i know rupert (for example) thinks the best horse always wins, but we all know that's not the case. secretariat lost 1/4th of his races. why? so, excuses can be made, but sometimes stuff just happens. so many, many things can cause it, or a combo of the same.
i hope chrome wins it, mainly due to the backstory of the horse itself. i think commercial breeders have done more to harm this industry than any other person or group that can affect the sport. super trainers are a close second, with their belief in minimal racing. this horse would show that good horses can come from nowhere, and that it's a good thing to let them grow up outdoors, run at two, and get all the things that create a strong horse that can handle racing more than a couple times of year.
now, if chrome loses, it would be a shame if some discounted everything he's managed thus far. he's a blue collar horse, and i appreciate horses like him a lot more than some of the others that have come down the pike.

Bad break...wide trip.

I'm looking forward to him winning. If only for Coburn's impression of an urbanspoon review troll.

FATPIANO 06-05-2014 08:43 AM

He will lose..IF....he gets an overconfident ride by Victor, I think Victor is so sure he is going to win, that he guns CC from the 2 hole and tries to win wire to wire, Victor will try to control pace/race and in the stretch, we will see the CC dream collapse, and Wicked Strong and Ride On Curlin duke it out for the win

MaTH716 06-05-2014 08:55 AM

I think the quality of competition category needs to be tweaked. I think CC is the best horse, but if he loses it will be more of the competition being fresher and more well rested than it is their actual quality.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Victor this morning. I'll be the first to admit that I've never been his biggest fan, but I was blown away on what a nice guy he was. He seems relaxed and is just enjoying every moment on this whirlwind journey. I hope he gets it done.

:tro:

I agree on both counts.

I'm also worried about the break. Was there in 2002 when War Emblem was going for it. You could hear a pin drop in that place when Sarava won.

geeker2 06-05-2014 03:23 PM

Who wins if nobody can get the distance ?

The one closest to getting the distance.

I think that the best horse always wins? Where did you come up with that? When I handicap, one of the things I try to figure out is who is the best horse if everybody runs their race. I think that is obviously an important factor to consider. But just as important is the question of who I think will run their best. When handicapping the Kentucky Derby for example, I think one of the most important factors is who is training well. I'd rather bet on the horse that I think is the 2nd or 3rd best horse in the race, if they are training much better than the horse that I think is the best horse in the race.

Other - Jerry Brown is going to rip off Chrome's nasal strip in the paddock.
