Good for Mr. Coburn :tro:

Wow!! Wilford Brimley's clone. Right out of the Absence of Malice scene. Love how he gave kudos to the groom.

He wouldn't be the first person to say this.

Makes the point to thank the groom in two interviews I saw. just guessing you wouldn't see that if Godolphin ever wins two legs of this series.

Though many may despise Frank Stronach for whatever reason, at least he puts on a great show for the racing crowd.

Coburn may be a bit curmudgeonly, but he and Art Sherman are both very real and easy to root for.

I about flipped when he hammered CD..........went out of his way to do it also. Has to be more to that story.............(which I read) it's like comparing Augusta to a local muni.....classic comments!

Go Chrome!!

I wholeheartedly agree!

Earlier, in a pre-race interview he said that he had "pissed off some people back in Kentucky." Any idea what that meant? Pissed them off because he came to Kentucky and won, or because he complained about Churchill while still in KY?

Classic non-story. Churchill response was both cordial and dismissive. Next year and years beyond, CD will have 160,000+ Derby attendees, more than 20 horses vying for Kentucky Derby start, and, unless California Chrome wins Triple Crown, no one will remember Coburn and his comments.

Even if CC wins the triple crown few people will remember this. Churchill has the bully stick, no horse owner will pass up the Derby to teach CDI a lesson.

when they were showing his lead up story after he won the derby and how he went to work the next day and went to the bar with all the locals, and then he was drinking Coors Original, i knew i could root for this guy!!!

When I heard him say that I just thought "wow" I live in Lville and can't think of more odd stories around KD in quit was while. Porter complaining about seating, asking Wes walker for money back and now this. Like I told my boss,Churchill could mess up a 3some w 2 playmates. Very irritating and I'm interested to hear what could have happened that was so bad to make one of the owners pissed enough to miss Preakness

Saw something about saddlecloth misspellings....but I fail to see what would be accomplished by not going to pimlico...why would Churchill care if the guy skipped the second jewel?

CD responds in a statement at the end of the article. Despite the displeasure from thier patrons this year I really do not think things will change next year. Kentucky Derby is the most sought after event in the whole state and the most premier horse racing event in the whole country. To them its a privilege for anyone to attend the kentucky Derby and they feel they do not need to roll out the red carpet for anyone.

Classic non-story? WHAT???? And you admitted Churchill response was "dismissive!!!!" What happens in the future is irrelevant. This was a BIG story and was played like a big story.
