xtra heat only won what 25 stakes races?

Calzone Lord 04-25-2014 01:35 PM

People complained about Point Given -- he was clearly an above average 3-year-old champion and almost captured the 2-year-old title by blowing past Street Cry and Macho Uno with a devastating late rush.

Ashado won a pair of division titles in pretty brutal years...and she did it without ever delivering a Hall of Fame caliber performance at any point in her career.

Alabama Stakes 04-25-2014 01:37 PM

point given crushed everyone when ridden properly.

The ongoing prejudice against sprinters in HOF voting remains an utter mystery.

Without King T. Leatherbury it's a joke

The only female sprinter that can be compared with Xtra Heat since Y2k is Groupie Doll.

Being one of the two best female sprinters of the last 15 years might not have been good enough in the past, but surely it is good enough under any procedure that declares Ashado a Hall of Famer, so soon.

Look at the champion 3-year-old fillies since 2007:

'07: Rags To Riches
'08: Proud Spell
'09: Rachel Alexandra
'10: Blind Luck
'11: Royal Delta
'12: Questing
'13: Beholder

Every single one of those horses, except for Questing and Proud Spell, would rate above Ashado.

Ashado was voted champion at age four, but had so many bad defeats. She was a distant 3rd to Pleasant Home. Shadow Cast buried her. Silmaril beat her. She was 5th in the Apple Blossom to Dream of Summer.

Even on her best days...she had no performances, at either age three or age four, that I would consider performances consistent with a Hall Of Fame caliber female, on her good day.

I'm not saying Ashado wasn't a good horse. Obviously, she's a two-time division champion. But, in the realm of two-time division champions, she's pretty forgettable.

it's too bad there's such a bias. either kona gold or xtra heat would be deserving of a hall spot.

CURLIN was the best horse since The Bid and The Bid was BETTER than Secretariat !!!

Congrats to Curlin

In an era where top horses have 12 race careers and graded stakes are routinely won by horses eligible for nw2x, a filly that won 25 stakes races including 10 graded, a grade 1, a grade 2 over males at Keeneland, and 2nd place finish in the Sprint not being elected says a lot about the people doing the voting.

Probably. The best since the bid? Now that's debatable.

I was lucky enough to be at Gulfstream on the day of Curlin's maiden voyage.

I remember it was the day before the Colts-Bears Super Bowl in Miami and the race track was super crowded. What a victory by the colt and by the Colts that next day!

Invasor won the Donn Hdcp on that day as well. One of my favorite racing days ever....

Invasor might have something to say about that

Stupid question but are there ever race callers in the Hall of Fame?

I wondered the same about the Eclipse awards so, rather than google it, figured I'd ask cause I always like hearing opinions along with answers.

Thanks in advance.
