Buck O'Neil has passed away...
This guy was truly amazing. While many of his former Negro Leaguers were inducted into the HOF this year, Buck missed by 1 stinking vote. Instead of complaining, this guy gave a speech at the HOF induction ceremony and had the whole crowd joining hands and singing with him. I was supposed to meet Buck at FanFest this year in Pittsburgh, but he never showed. I was able to write to him and get him to sign a baseball, but I'd have loved to meet the guy. He always wore a smile on his face and will be missed greatly in the baseball community. One of these days he'll make the HOF I'm sure, but its a damn shame the honor will come posthumously to such a great individual. First African American baseball coach and played with greats such as Satchel Paige. RIP Buck...:(
