Mean Season

Hope he's OK, as he was vanned off after the race, but WOW. 2nd straight laughably easy blowout win and he wasn't facing bums either. Most impressive part is he did it in 1:09.43, .42 seconds faster than Strapping Groom ran to win the Tom Fool one race later. Could be a special sprinter if healthy.

Arletta 03-01-2014 01:15 PM

Keeping fingers crossed.. Very impressive indeed.

Seattleallstar 03-01-2014 01:25 PM

Oh my hope he is ok, looks to be any kind

ateamstupid 03-01-2014 03:59 PM

Figures.

Bill Mott told @DRFWelsch Mean Season had a tiny evulsion fracture at origin of suspensory. "Needs a little time off"

It is not a terrible injury and will generally heal simply with time off. Basically the area of bone where the ligament attaches is pulled away from the rest of the bone. In best case scenarios the bone isnt displaced that much and will reattach itself and there is minimal suspensory ligament damage.

They usually occur if there is some sort of trauma/overextension or torque in the case of a horse with less than ideal conformation. 45-60 days stall rest would be normal though in a case where the fracture was very small maybe less time.

JDank34 03-01-2014 09:58 PM

He's a special horse. He has no ligament damage but the suspensory did pull a solid piece of bone off. Heads to Ocala in a couple days and will get 6 months at the farm. Should come back as good as ever.

Godspeed to the young feller

Gate Dancer 03-02-2014 08:01 AM

Glad to hear its minimal damage (in theory)............this guy has a pretty nice 'cruising speed'......

Awesome effort but this guy seems to have physical issues. A 4 year old making his 3 lifetime start off of a 69 Day layoff and now will be off for a significant time. Would have been nice to see what he could be if healthy.

Bill Mott has to be commended then for keeping this fragile horse going for as long as it did

freddymo 03-02-2014 08:18 AM

He had normal 2yo issues that delayed getting him started. Other than that he has been great physically. The timing is spread out due to the purchase and transfer to Mott. Time between 2 Mott starts due to him developing a fever the AM of his scheduled 2nd start for Mott.

jms62 03-03-2014 08:46 AM

Any update on his status?

The point of the post which seems to have escape thee is that Mean Season is extremely exciting as was Lost in the Fog when he ran his first 4 or 5 races with BSF's between 100 and 110 if memory serves me correctly. As you accurately tweeted Mean Season has not been tested so its impossible to gauge his ultimate quality BUT its very easy to be excited by his prospects.

Sorry. But honestly that horse never once excited me. The only props I will give is to the connections. I believe he ran at Gulfstream, Aqueduct, Belmont, Toga and Golden Gate. They shipped him around.

ok, but freddy was talking about freddy, not you. i also found him exciting, a lot of people did. just like people still remember the test stakes between you and carson hollow. it doesn't have to be the race of the century redux to be exciting.
