Monday racing at Aqueduct

Personally, I like the idea and hope it works out, though I have a little reservation about the handle since the only thing basically running on the non-Holiday Mondays would be Parx and Beulah.

I work 3 days in a row either sun-tues or wed-fri.
I would play every single Monday on my Wed-Fri week. Good idea. Why compete with Gulfstream on Wednesday?

A very good move. Now bring back Tampa Tuesdays and the winter will be awesome.

I agree that this is an interesting move - and worth trying. I am surprised that they are not running only four days per week throughout the winter.

How many races in the 4 days? What happens when you cancel dates because of bad weather? Harder to make up with less dates.

We keep hearing how NYRA has reduced revenue this year due to running fewer racing dates compared to 2012. My sense is that, from a budgetary perspective, they are planning to run more cards, projecting an increase in revenue year-over-year compared to 2013; this change goes hand-in-hand with the hikes in admission, parking and simulcasting fees. I just don't get the sense that the horse population around here for the winter is going to be that much different from winter of 2012-13, when NYRA determined that running five days a week was not compatible with putting on a safe, appealing product.

The irony of all this is that last winter NYS essentially forced NYRA to run four days per week, citing horse safety as the primary concern. Now, NYS is essentially forcing NYRA to run five days per week, citing the (bogus) need to have racing operations become a break even proposition (and not factoring VLT revenue into NYRA's bottome-line, which it should be).

It is my understanding that the State controls essentially all of what happens at NYRA so using the title NYRA is silly. Until NYRA calls their own shots shouldnt we direct all shots at the State and not NYRA?

I think 4 days a week would be ideal but that is just me and what do I know? I get folks need to eat, pay bills and without races its impossible but i just do not see the benefit in 45 to 50 races a week when the best barns are in Florida .Louisiana, and Ark? To be fair, even Shug said those 77k Mdn Spl races have him staying longer in town and we did see a lot better quality of animal stay thru the winter last year with the purse being much higher.

I work Tuesday-Saturday and am always looking for a decent track to bet on Monday, so I'm pretty stoked about this.
