Campo leaves NY for Stronach Group/Gulfstream

As speculated since before the addition of Martin Panza to NYRA, P.J. Campo moving to Stronach Group and Gulfstream as VP/Racing.

Your thoughts on this Steve?

Will we be looking at a full slate of Florida bred turf sprints for every card? Here's hoping.

Happy for PJ to get a fresh opportunity. He operated under incredible duress from the moment he succeeded Mike Lakow through this extended period of impossible, endless tension. I know PJ has detractors but I've always found him easy to approach and deal with and he has always been generous with me. He's also taught me a lot about how racing offices work. I'm sure it will be a little difficult for him to leave New York, but think he'll be a lot happier long term.

I agree he has done a good job with what he has to work with.

Not new exactly. There has generally been an East Coast and West Coast racing exec at Magna/Stronach Group in one form or another. Tim Ritvo had the job before being elevated to presidency of GP.

Will this mean less sprint turf races at the Spa? Hope so.
