My husband's comment was that Frank Sinatra didn't so much roll over in his grave as just sighed and farted.

Arletta 11-02-2013 07:44 PM

My son came out of the room saying "What is that awful music?!" :D

I had to mute it.

outofthebox 11-02-2013 08:58 PM

Changed the channel to Delta Downs during that song....

I winced at what was shown even before that, but as soon as I learned there would be a song, the channel returned to HRTV.

only if you're 80 and have never seen a broadway musical.

i started watching online early and what got me was the onsite audience being asked to stand for 2 national anthems and a rendition of america the beautiful throughout the day. i'm as patriotic as any but 3 flag ceremonies?

are we trying to prove that horse race fans are more patriotic than those leftists at the world series who only stand once?

What about Richie Sambora's Call to Post? :zz:

When that came on I wanted to puke! NBC Sports was doing a good job with the races that lead up to the Classic and then we got a version of Entertainment Tonight.from NBC....what the hell does Billy Bush know about horse racing. Then they larded out the celebs with their pick of Game on Dud. And that clinched it for me to dump him . If I could get HRTV I would have changes it but I could not (thank you Direct TV). Fortunately at that point I was feeling pretty good at the BC party I was having and I was waiting to root home my p4. All in all a good day until NBC came on and thank god there was not another step left in the race!::$::zz:

I actually thought that was cool.
However his pre-performance interview he said he follows the sport and he mentioned that "Fire and Ice" will beat "Wild Dan" in the 11th.

If you follow the sport, how do you not know the name of the 2013 HOY

As a lover of musical theater and huge fan of Kristen Chenowith I enjoyed it. However, I understand how horseplayers may have been very put off. Definitely a poor choice of venue.

Stop picking on Oklahomans!

That wasnt a spoof?? Last time I heard singing like that was when a cat got the garage door closed on his tail. Worst public singing performance since Rosanne Barr and it wasnt the song. Tony Bennet knocked it out of the park when he sang it.

I'm a fan of hers but that was rough. It's a hard song to sing in tune and suits more of a jazzy/standards voice than an operatic one. All they had to do was have Harry Connick Jr or Michael Buble sing it. She's a coloratura soprano. Just not a good fit. At least it wasn't the Empire State of Mind debacle of Belmont day where the network actually went to commercial early to end the wretched noise that rather anonymous girl was putting out.

Maybe it's better than it sounded on my tv, but I'm not gonna listen to it again to find out. If they're not gonna get someone who fits that style of song to sing it, pick another one.

That was my problem, too- it's not the style of song she suits. She sounded like she was trying to punch it into submission. But I think NBC figured they'd better get someone people at home might recognize.

Musical theater (which is what I assume you mean by "broadway") is a uniquely American art form. Great musicals are great art. The problem is, that, like most anything that sets out to entertain us, the majority of it is mediocre. A lot of great standards originated in musicals.
