Belmont Café Bettor Hits Louisiana Downs Pick 5 for $889k

ELMONT, N.Y. - A bettor at the Belmont Café on Friday purchased the sole winning ticket on Louisiana Downs' Super Pick 5, which paid $889,726. Upon cashing his ticket on Saturday, the bettor declined to have his name released to the media.

The Belmont Café guest purchased a $270 ticket that covered 540 combinations. The Louisiana Downs Super Pick 5 is a 50-cent minimum, jackpot-style wager in which the entire pool pays out only when there is a single winning ticket.

Beginning with the 2013 Belmont fall meet, The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will offer a Pick 5 with a 15 percent takeout. Unlike the Louisiana Downs Pick 5, the entire net pool will be distributed even when there is more than one winning ticket.
