Really enjoyed the story of how Ritchie was named and about his owner, Joel Kligman, in the June 29th edition of the Blood Horse....

Just heard yesterday that Richiefromshoprite was fatally injured in a freak accident overnight on July 7th after his 5th place finish in an allowance race at Monmouth.

Nice, hard knocking horse.

AH. no. That's terrible. I was really looking forward to following his racing career further. Sad news after a great weekend of racing. This game can be really tough at times..:(

They are still tryig to figure out what happened but it appears something spooked him and he broke through the stall door and ran down the shedrow. He was found near Tim Hill's barn next to a pole with some blood in his ear, which indicated he ran into the pole. By the time the vet got there he was in alot of pain. It's only speculation, but they think that he had an acute case of colic and that's what freaked him out.

what an awful ending...and poignant too, since i'd just read a story about his owner, and his health issues lately. that richie was his one win, but the owner couldn't be there because he's so ill. parkinsons i think.
