This just makes me sad...
 

Obviously any suicide is tragic, but at 71 and such an icon because of his name and Wisconsin roots.

Very sad indeed. He was a WI legend!

Just read the cemetary where he killed himself was the same one his two grandkids (killed in a auto accident) were buried. :( Leaves behind a wife of 53 years and 3 adult children. Supposedly also had some chronic medical problem with extreme pain in his chest.

There are videos out there on Youtube of him firing up a cigarette and smoking thru a hole drilled into his helmet while racing NASCAR.

Ended his life the way he lived it, anyway he wanted.

there are a million stories about this guy, a legend on the short tracks, a great character. The cigerette lighter in the car was his trademark. RIP :tro:

I've heard him interviewed several. I agree with you on him being a character. RIP
