Feeling better, Jackson Bend back in training..

Missed the breeding season and then seemingly came around to feeling like a racehorse again. Started back with Stanley Gold..

he's a great horse and was a previous derby selection of mine...one of my favorites

That's a great article; loved the part about him deciding his slow gallops weren't doing it for him anymore and taking things into his own hooves, as it were. Such a neat little horse.

even if he never races again, i'm glad to know he's finally gotten that spirit back.
racing again would be the icing on the cake. just thrilled he's healthy and fully recovered from that collision.

I wouldn't always say I'm happy when horses go from being retired to stud to put back in training, but with a horse like Jackson Bend, he's being handled well and is the one deciding he wants to be a racehorse again. After what he went through, it'd be great if he could go out a winner. It's hard not to be incredibly fond of him. What a character.

Jackson Bend never actually stood at stud. They had planned on it but were finding that he was having some issues (which combined with a possible dearth of support) and early in the year it was announced that he would not be bred this year.

I needed him in the BC Sprint in 2011 for a 30K score in the Pick 5.
So yeah, I have been a fan before. It doesn't stop me from cringing when I see his name.

Returns to the races Saturday June 8th in the Calder 11th; The Ponche H.

Forgot he was running and just saw he came in 5th. Any thoughts on how he did given the layoff? Is it a stepping stone for a horse that wasn't quite fit yet or a sign of how the year's gonna go?
