Shug interview on HRTV

It sure seems like he doesnt want to run Point of Entry. Said he would talk to Javier after this race and then make a decision.

Would be a chicken **** move to scratch, especially cause the horse has won on a yielding course before

Great. Done and Agreed.

Believe he has been scratched.

Lovely. I wonder what that does to my live two day pk3 tickets.

I don't blame him, I see horses slipping all over the place on that turf course, I highly doubt he is concerned because its not firm but because that course gets a tad unsafe.

I respect Shug, and i can not argue with any of your points. Perhaps later we can still see that matchup.

CD P3 Rules: http://www.churchilldowns.com/racing...g-rules/pick-3

(i) In the event a betting entry is scratched in the second leg after the start of the first leg a consolation payoff shall be computed for those bets combining the winners of the first and third legs with such scratched horse as follows: from the gross pool shall be deducted the statutory take-out and then the amount represented by bets on combinations involving entries scratched from the third leg (reduced by the rate of statutory take-out thereon). The resulting remainder shall be divided by the amounts bet on the combination of such first and third leg winners with all betting entries in the second leg (less breaks) to determine the consolation price per dollar payable to those bets combining winners of the first and third legs with an entry scratched in the second leg. The break shall not be deducted from the pool.

Just another scratch. I heard that Tiger isn't playing this week because he's afraid of Phil. I heard that big pappy isn't playing because he doesn't want to face todays pitcher. I heard that jeff Gordon isn't racing this week because he's afraid of jimmy Johnson. even in dog racing they don't scratch dogs because there's a good dog in the race. leave it to horse racing.

from a fans standpoint it was disappointing but i doubt anyone who knows anything about shug and the phipps' thinks he scratched because they were afraid to finish second.

dumb post.

I disagree. I obviously don't know the exact reason, but the horse has won before over off ground, and a G1 to boot (going 12 furlongs). Unless someone was wrong with him, there should have been no reason for the scratch

If the horse has shown to hate off ground, I would have completely understood and agreed, but this seems like they knew at 9 furlongs they were gonna get drilled by Wise Dan so took their ball and went home (and then won the Derby :) )

I agree they could have run and have had zero negative impact on the the horse value if he lost. I do recall listeninf to Shug say the horse perfers firm footing. Maybe Stronach called the shot but I doubt it. I think he thought the horse wouldnt run well??? I agree he should have run but I dont think it was the distance or Wise Dan. Shug thought Data Link had a real shot against Wise dan so I seriously doubt he was afraid to give PoE a shot.
