This was no secret. It was widely known that this stuff was used in the 70's and 80's. What's next a breaking story that football players use pain killers

I had a neighbor that used this stuff religiously - he was in his 70's and said it relived joint pain and swelling better than anything else.

You can get it at Tractor Supply for like 5 bucks a tub.

All I remember is the stuff burned like hell and gave you garlic like breath. Didn't do much for ankle sprains for me.

I don't know about human consumption, but I can tell you I have had to use it on my horse via IV for 3 days and the smell is horrific, even in an open air barn. That smell will never leave me......

I remember back years ago you'd smell it from Arlington's parking lot following a $4K claiming race especially if JR Smith Sr. had one in.

Back in the 70,80s,&90s every barn used DMSO. For a rub you mixed in most liniments and IV jugs were common. Definitely reduced inflamation and as a mix increased the effectiveness of the mixed products. It was legal for human use in Oregon and clinics ran IV jugs for arthritis etc. Byproduct of pulp and paper and was dirt cheap.
60 Minutes ran a piece about it how the drug companies don't want this cheap product as a replacement for their expensive drugs. Question as to the side effects also. The cost of vet grade DMSO became sky high after the show aired.
Not involved in backstretch any more but I assume they test for it now although it wasn't illegal back then. Don't need much of a test as all you need to do is smell. Wouldn't bother some people but I couldn't stand the stuff .

Can't believe it is so cheap now. Back in the early 90's it was 4x the price. Obviously no longer in demand if it is testing.

How about freezing joints so they can numb the pain and be able to play.

Back in the late 70's I was introduced to DMSO by some of my professional baseball players on my minor league team. I was the athletic trainer.

I threw batting practice every other day to have some fun and by mid season my elbow felt like an alligator was teething on it it hurt so bad. So I use all the conventional stuff to try and reduce the pain and inflammation. Ice, ultra sound, nsaids, and no relief. My room mate was a pitcher from Tampa and he gave me a bottle of dmso in a roll on deodorant type bottle. Hesitant at first, but I used it and within 48 hrs, all the pain and stiffness was gone. Hooked baby. And every road trip we took down to Fla where it was for sale in stores, it was purchased.

And since everybody either dipped or chewed tobacco, we did not experience the bad garlic taste or smell. :)
