the redskins-what's in a name?
 

yet again, a movement started to change the name of the team. thoughts?

seems some are starting to refer to redskin as the 'r' word.

No disrespect to any native Americans but i think it's not meant to be racist and should remain in place.

I think that all nicknames are offensive to someone or something and should be banned.

Philip Deloria, a museum trustee and history professor at the University of Michigan, urged people to boycott the team and its sponsors, write NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and insist that The Washington Post stop using what some called the “R-word.”

Newspapers in other cities, including the Kansas City Star, no longer use “Redskins” when referring to the team.


and mclem, i agree. i've never really thought about it either. my husband and three kids all have native american blood, and none of them are bothered by it.
i don't think it should be changed, but this issue comes up over and over again. i figure at some point, it will be changed.

At least the logo isn't as racist as the Indians' one.

Heard today someone mentioning "playing Cowboys and Indians". I guess that's out. I use to love knocking off those braves!
