Should Musburger apologize for calling someone good looking?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...eb9_story.html

Anybody else hear of a case where apologies are necessary for a comment on a positive attribute (like beauty)?

What's next - apologizing for calling someone "smart"?

Absolutely NOT! It is way beyond absurd.

Calzone Lord 01-11-2013 10:07 AM

It's completely ridiculous.

The game was such a blowout from the start ... what was there to talk about other than the pile of sh!t Pac 10 referees or players girlfriends?

The Notre Dame linebacker Manti Teo -- his girlfriend got cancer and he stuck with her to the very day she died earlier in the year ... had he not played the worst game of his life and had his team not got plunger raped from the opening minute ... you would have heard endlessly about the dead girlfriend of the Notre Dame star player who he stuck by.

Instead, Alabama won ... and the star qb for Alabama has a girlfriend who does this ....

If Brent Musburger was a black Jewish lesbian in a wheel-chair with a speech impediment... do you think anyone would have found his comments offensive?

mclem0822 01-11-2013 10:16 AM

It's nonsense, if Brent was half his age would anyone have said squat? But because he's pushing 80 suddenly he a "dirty old man" i guess. It's amazing what the media will blow way outta proportion, well no it's common place now!

Threads like this make me miss Riot and her take on it. Loved the mayhem that ensued afterwards.

Did she get darted?

Kasept 01-11-2013 11:13 AM

If Musburger needs to apologize for anything, it's for foisting Mike Francesa on the public.

No. I guess you missed the root cause of her seeming departure.

rpncaine 01-11-2013 11:21 AM

Nope. Just forgot. Coming back to me now!

Apologize? It is the best thing that has ever happened to her. She could not have bought the positive publicity she has gotten out of this.

Which is why, if I was the commentator, I would have focused on Manti T'eo's dead girlfriend and pondered aloud if she would have dumped him after missing all of those tackles, taking bad angles, and playing out of position all night long.

Yeah - she should pay Mosburger an agent's commission. :$:

Brunt Messburger, we usta get a lot of laughs from his mis-speaks during a game...but this is a ridiculous no-story.

Kudos to Katherine Webb and her parents, who refused to get worked up about the entire kerfuffle. Personally, I’ve read and re-read the quotes, and I don’t understand the outrage. Yet ESPN felt it necessary to issue a this statement: “We apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far, and Brent understands that.”

Like Jenn Sterger, the young lady should be thankful for the attention from Musberger.

i read a few days ago about this brouhaha. it's ridiculous. he made a couple brief remarks-so what. much ado....must be a slow sports news day.

nothing to apologize for at all.

Coup Verville 01-11-2013 04:01 PM

It wasn't nearly as awkward as Musberger's verbal reach around that he gave "The Honeybadger" last year. That was quite the little bromance.

As a feminist, I immensely enjoyed watching McCarron's reaction to realizing his girlfriend is becoming more famous than he. See at link.

The first comment at the bottom of the article is priceless.
