NFL Challange rule
 

Absolutely absurd that you get rocked with a penalty AND lose the automatic review of a TD when you throw the challange flag. They are reveiwing it anyway so what is the point, you are not delaying the game anymore then it was being delayed in the first place.

I was just reading about that on ESPN.com. It might be the craziest, stupidest rule I have ever heard of.

Bill Parcells was always against the use of instant replay, not because he was against changing incorrect calls, but because of the extra responsibility it forced on head coaches. This is a perfect example of the absurdity.

There are other instances when you cannot challage and when the coach throws the flag they simply pick it up and say the play was not challangeable. Why the double penalty in this scenario for something that I consider extremely insignificant. The purpose of instant replay is to make the right call.

If I knew the rule, then a guy who's job is to know the rules, should know them. The rule is stupid, but it is a rule.

Schwartz is paid handsomely to know the rules. It is all on him, despite the stupidity of the rule.

delicious irony that it was schwartz involved. he's the one who was filmed saying harbaugh ought to 'know the rules' when harbaugh threw a challenge flag on an unreviewable call last year-the handshake game.

It's a stupid rule. Schwartz got caught in the heat of the moment.

The thing bothering me is that Schwartz is taking all the heat and everyone has seemed to forget how badly the officials botched the call. Almost like, since Schwartz threw the flag the call was vindicated.

If you want to make it a penalty then access the Lions 15 yards, but letting an incorrect call (pretty much one that affected the outcome of the game) stand because a coach threw the challange flag in the heat of the moment on a call that was going to be reviewed anyway, is absolutely ridiculous. The NFL has a system in place that let a horrible call stand because of a technicality. That's unacceptable.

I agree, math it is a stupid rule. Refs make a mistake, they fix it on review. Coach makes a mistake, so they penalize him twice. It's a bad rule, the punishment is overkill for the crime.

Review the play, get it right. Punish the Coach by forcing him to watch the Jets/Pats game over and over and over.........

just another head scratcher from the NFL. Still cant figure out how to make the goalposts higher either. Seriously, with all the technology out there they can't find a way to tell if a field goal is good or not ?
