Back in Vegas, again, soliciting 2013 KD futures pick ideas

Yeah, I know some of you hate them--so don't play 'em.

Played two last year, and both made the gate (but not the board), so it was fun following them all winter and spring.

Here's the most recent Wynn odds I could find:

I don't know who else might have them up early. Lucky's used to do it, but they've been taken over by William Hill so I'll have to wander over and see.

Thanks to all.

If Long River works in the next few days -- jump on the 200/1 odds on him.

Little Distorted isn't listed on there --- he's a very talented horse with a ton of route breeding on the bottom.

There are a few horses with odds I am surprised at. Kauai Katie is 200/1, not that I like her for the Derby.

Also, there is an Indian Charlie that won big first time out this month at Delaware that is listed at 275/1. He won by six in a bit of a slow time, but he won nicely and is out of an AP Indy mare that made over 500k. A. P. Indian is the name.

Long River is owned by Darley, right???? If yes, who trains?

I don't see that outfit winning the Derby anytime soon, unless they dramatically change their ways. Also, if it's trained by Harty, yuck.

Just watched Long River, he looked ok to me. I thought the heavy favorite that ran behind him in his debut looked interesting. Nevada.

Little Distorted isn't on there because those odds were from four days before he debuted.

He looked pretty good.

McLaughlin.

It's the same connections as Alpha. They aren't shipping these types to Dubai to try and ruin them any more.

Coach Pants 10-30-2012 11:36 AM

Yeah Sheikh Mo is rational and has proved so in the past. Go all in on that horse.

Calzone Lord 10-30-2012 11:44 AM

Dubai isn't dirt anymore.

Yeah but that's home. He'll sacrifice any horse for ego.

Have you watched his other races? He's not much.

He's more likely to be claimed by David Jacobson this winter than being in the gate the first Saturday in May.

Perhaps, but this horse hasn't even broke its maiden yet.

Still a maiden after two starts.

Nevada is pretty bad. He just bombed at Keeneland at 3-5.

Yeah, I watched them after posting that.

Perhaps long on turf will work for that one.

Yeah, he ain't much, though like I just said, maybe going long on turf will be his game.

Titletown Five at 200-1 is real nice. Violence is good, but 30-1? No thanks.

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-30-2012 05:34 PM

bambazuki and in todd w trust also dawn aproach

tector 10-31-2012 03:23 AM

I will process your suggestions over the next couple of days. Going to see who else, if anybody, has odds up besides the Wynn.

Again, thanks.

knickslions2 10-31-2012 07:24 AM

A.P. Indian at 275-1 would be worth a $20 donation.

tector 10-31-2012 06:39 PM

Little Distorted had already been bet down from 150-1 to 80-1 at the Wynn, William Hill had him 125-1.

Violence was 75-1 at William Hill.

Otherwise I thought the WH prices were generally worse than the Wynn prices, which is sad because the WH outlets used to be Luckys, which generally had better prices than Wynn--which is the reason they got torched by O'Neill and friends last year.

Today's true gambling story.

My favorite gambling movie is California Split. In it, George Segal's character has a wild run in Reno playing poker, blackjack, roulette and craps.

Roulette is a sucker game. In the movie, Segal hits big on 26 playing roulette. So today I am in Venetian setting up a pari-mutuel account, and I walk by a roulette table (actually 2, back to back). A bunch of people are playing one and as walk near it I think, WTF, I'll take a flyer on 26. But before I can bet, the ball is gone, the guy is waving over the table, and no more bets. Guess what--26 comes in. JFC. This mirrored a bad experience the night before at a craps table. I think I am already effing mushed on this trip.

Later, coming back from the trip to scout futures at the Wynn and Riviera, I again walk by the same two tables. The "other" table, the one I did not try to play, is empty, but attended. I'm like, let me get this s--t out of my system. So I ask, OK if I just take one spin for $20. Yeah, sure, so I put $20 on 26--MFer comes in. $720, give the lady the $20, and I leave.

Now I am done with roulette and craps (well probably on the latter)--it is now horses, football, poker and maybe blackjack (which bailed out my ass yesterday after the craps debacle--a $27 profit yesterday is still profit).
