Hawthorne is getting innovative
 

If the girls look good in those bikini's and can be trained up to do a decent job of explaining -- I think it's an excellent idea.

It's certainly the direction this sport has slowly been going towards ever since the Beulah twins debuted as TV analysts.

Almost every track and both racing networks have their hottie they can put on air. I think this is a much more honest and customer friendly approach and it will have better results.

They're starting to listen. What they need to do is put a strip club on the grounds.

Or they can have a few stripper poles set up throughout the track and build a few VIP rooms where the girls can hook if they choose to do so.

Caligula would have loved that. He was a HUGE fan of horse racing in ancient days.

I remember on my summer vacation when I was about 12 years old -- my father would drive around Daytona Beach in a brand new Viper with me and go to the Hooters across the street from the Daytona Beach Dog Track to try and hire greeters for his dealership.

They were great for business, especially outdoor "tent sales" ... that was until he eventually got himself sued for sexual harassment, at least twice that I know of.

The Daytona Beach dog track (GREAT place) is literally right next door to the slightly more famous Daytona International Speedway.

Those 1 PM matinee at the dogs -- 6 PM Hooters -- and 7:30 PM evening program at the dogs with my grandfather were fond memories of my childhood.

They only simulcasted Calder and NYRA, I believe. Those were the days when U Can Do It was the star at Calder and Lady Quick and I Get Around were unbeatable at Daytona

Unfortunately, they have bigger issues

I was tempted but can't go there . I think woodbine does a nice job from a handicappers perspective.

That is a classic.

The couple that we sat beside at Keeneland last weekend are coming to Chicago in December and are going to HAW. They said they never been there and like to go to different tracks. I couldn't grasp why anyone would plan their vacation around a trip to HAW and tried to convey to them what was in store for them. I should send that post to the guy as it does a much, much better job.

WOW never thought I would here those names again living here in Ocala we made many a trip to Daytona and still do once in awhile

They re-built the whole complex a couple of years ago, and moved it a bit to the south. Haven't been in there yet, but drove by it a couple of weeks ago. It looked quite nice. Not necessarily Taj Mahal Derby Lane nice, but nice.

I've never been to Hawthorne -- but it is one old ass race track.

Here is an amusing DRF write-up about a maiden race at Hawthorne that was run on September 15th 1898.

That maiden race got an amazing 74 horses who entered to run in it.

Most of them are what was called "badge horses" ... horses that people would buy cheaply in order to get badges so they wouldn't have to pay admission fees. Even in the early 1920's -- it was cheaper to buy a good seat at a world series baseball game and watch Babe Ruth play, than it was to go to Aqueduct to watch a race card.

That post on Hawthorne was the funniest thing I've ever seen on this site.

But in all fairness, in the fall meet, field sizes are better than most tracks. Not the case during the spring meet. Probably should start racing around April 1st.
