Holy Kiss 108 Batman, the Joker must be back in town.

Reacting to the big fig, Mandella said he had a feeling based on the rest of the day that she ran a significant number. Said too that if she's doing particularly well out of this, he'll give serious consideration to the Juvenile Filly route. Otherwise, one of the Juvy Sprints.

Beholder only managed to finish 4th in her debut at 21/1 odds -- as fast as she is -- she missed a chance to pad her sire Henny Hughes crazy impressive stats with debuting runners.

Henny Hughes with 1st time starters in 2012:

11-for-55 (20% wins and $6.08 ROI)

The average win mutual of a Henny Hughes debut winner is $30.40 -- A couple of nice Henny Hughes debuters were on the board at Saratoga this year as well.

Laguna Girl just missed winning her debut at Saratoga when 2nd at 26/1 odds. Marry Meadow was 3rd in her debut at Saratoga, at odds of 44/1.

In 2011, Henny Hughes debuters went 10-for-63 (16% wins) and a great $3.05 ROI

Carried Interest the other day too... Ran well.

Yep, he's been outstanding at getting offspring with speed and precocity.

A lot of them apparently are horses that don't train as well as they run. In order to get those consistent and sky high ROI's with debuters, you have to have a few horses win who fool some people like their own trainer and clockers.

Very helpful information... which begs the question - is there a way to set a "watch" for henny firsters? I use equibase virtual stable and DRF's similar product to monitor entries but those require a horse's name. Does anyone know if there is a product or alert that allows you to filter alerts based on a sire and/or first start?

Ken McPeek's HORSE RACES NOW app (iPad/iPhone) has a sire alert function.

Thanks... I'll download it and give it a shot tonight!

Henny Hughes had one of the most textbook perfect under-tack workouts you'll ever see at a 2-year-old in training sale.

At Barretts March 2005, he worked an unblinkered 1/8th of a mile in under 10 seconds flat.

Here's the video of his work at Barretts March in 2005:

Pretty good 2-year-old season. He wasn't always a good gate horse, though. He won the Tremont Stakes at Belmont by 15 lengths going just 5.5 furlongs despite stumbling at the start. He had gate problems in his debut as well.

His performance in the BC Juvenile with first lasix was a nice one. He did all the dirty work on a hot pace -- before Stevie Wonderboy came from way off the pace to nail him late after getting a great setup.

Wow that was impressive looking..Noticed he was a july yearling buy at 100k. What did he fetch for at the Barrets sale?

Well if Mandella was worried about her stretching out last week, what's he going to think after she went 44 the other day. She is so damn fast at this stage that i worry that her ability to go slower will be hard to produce even under Mandellas' training expertise....

I use the HRN app, but couldn't find a Sire Alert function. Were you thinking of another one?

wapete 10-08-2012 03:36 PM
